New Roots presents an evening of contemporary chamber music, where classical influences meet world music, folk and indie attitudes, perfectly matched to the chapel like acoustics of the vaults of Holborn viaduct.
Firefly Burning are a 5-piece ensemble from North East London. Blending influences from the chamber folk style of Sufjan Stevens and the post-minimalism of John Adams to modern classical composition and Eastern and African folk music, their cinematic songs are part art-folk song, part minimalist chamber music. Drawing on strings, guitar, gamelan, bass synthesizer, piano, gongs and voices, this unique ensemble’s close harmonies and intricate rhythms set an intimate and intense atmosphere that demands and repays close attention.
The band have just released new album Skeleton Hill to critical acclaim, produced by Tim Friese-Greene (Talk Talk, Heligoland).
