New Roots presents a unique concert in a unique venue. The Winemakers is a strikingly atmospheric 80 capacity candle-lit stone arch set in the vaults of Holborn Viaduct. It’s attached to the Winemakers Club, a beautiful independently run wine, whiskey and craft beer bar.
.
British-Austrian drummer Bernhard Schimpelsberger grew up in Austria deeply rooted in Jazz and Western classical music, but it was his studies in Indian classical music with Tabla master Suresh Talwalkar that shaped his unique outlook on music. He has collaborated and toured the globe with Anoushka Shankar, Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, and Susheela Raman amongst others. Described as ‘one of the most technique gifted and tasteful players we have seen in a long time’ (Drummer Magazine) his compositions uniquely bridge the musical worlds of India and the West.
.
This special concert celebrates the departure of Bernhard’s journey to 10 European cities. In each city he will collaborate with some of Europe’s most exciting musicians, creating a soundtrack for each city.
.
Bernhard’s ‘musical bags’ for the trip are his Rhythm Diaries,a collection of his compositions and the stories behind them. Through the course of his journey they will grow and evolve.
.
For this special evening you can witness them in their original and raw form, presented by Bernhard’s unique collection of instruments in this stunningly intimate location.
.
To celebrate the beginning of his journey Bernhard will be joined by 3 exquisite special guests, oud player Saied Silbak, violinist Preetha Naranayan and cellist Tara Franks.
