Mesadorm is a new collaborative project between May Gibbs (Vaults), Aaron Zahl, Daisy Palmer (Rae Morris, Goldfrapp, Lillian Boute), Jo Silverston (The Unthanks, Red Clay Halo, Frank Turner) and many more. The relationships in the project go back many years and have a distinctly Bristol centred heritage.

Gibbs writes the songs on piano and organ, recorded with and produced by Zahl, who fleshes out the musical world through his electronic sound-scapery. Having known each other since they were teenagers, Zahl and Gibbs have a unique connection that plays out in the combination of acoustic and electronic instruments. Friends and family who have played on the record (in progress), including Gibbs’ 90 year old Grandmother, have been guided as well as given free rein and so the process is recognised by all as a collaboration with Gibbs and Zahl at the helm.

Influences and likenesses are wide. Moments of harsh alienation segue into comforting ballads with rousing choruses and back again. The performances dwell in a tragi-comic in-between space all tied together with the lyrics as guide.

Jilk fuses a bewildering collage of home-found sounds with the ambient soundscapes of washy synths, insect-like clicks & cuts, and huge gorgeous waves of all encompassing experimental noise. A Bristol based producer who started out as one man and his lap top; 10 years later Jilk are now a collection of musicians whose live shows create a spectacle of electronic ethereality. With an ever increasing number of appearances at a variety of festivals and also supporting artists such as Minotaur Shock, Hk119, Coppe, Plaid and Hidden Orchestra; their live shows are really something to behold.
