New Roots presents THE NEW ROOTS BOUTIQUE, a brand new night UPSTAIRS in the legendary Betsey Trotwood celebrating the very best in new and upcoming contemporary roots and alt-folk artists and bands. With three acts on one superb triple bill, we ask that all attending stay for the full line-up – the ethos of the night is to introduce musicians and artists to each other’s audience , and to introduce the audience to great new artists. We’ll also be asking for no talking during performances, and for social media devices to be switched off so the music gets the full attention it deserves!

Sincere Deceivers are Matt Glover (vocals, acoustic guitar), Tim Davies (electric guitar, vocals), and Dom Main (cello, vocals). The London based Yorkshire natives have developed a folk driven sound, rooted in the storytelling tradition, drawing on a variety of contemporary influences. In 2015 they released their first EP, Autumnal Dreams, launching it at St Pancras Old Church, and followed it with notable shows for Songwriting Magazine, Sofar Sounds and Folkroom Records. In 2019 Sincere Deceivers released two singles, ‘Gladness’ and ‘Hot Handed’, receiving local and national airplay.

“…perfect poise [and] understated intelligence” Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music

Earning comparisons to Yo La Tengo, Devendra Banhart, Nick Drake and Milton Nascimento. South Londoners EWE draw on folk, blues, Latin, & their heritage North African music to create their songs. In 2016 their debut release received support from BBC 6 Music, FRUK and attracted the interest of Mice Parade’s Adam Pierce, who arranged dates across New York State for them, including a support show for British Sea Power splinter group Brakes. EWE returned from the USA to play a sellout show at St Pancras Old Church. The duo have gone on to play Festival No. 6, Red Rooster, Wilderness, Tandem and shows with Brakes, Low Chimes, Francobollo, Oh Sister, Ben Walker & Josienne Clarke, Sophie Jamieson and Patch & The Giant.

‘impeccable’ Gary Crowley – BBC Radio London / ‘an intriguing and accomplished EP… an important talent who most definitely deserves a much wider audience.’ FRUK / ‘my favourite track in an incredible week of music’ Fresh On The Net / ‘quite remarkable’ FATEA

The People Versus are a Chamber Pop assemblage offering a new spin. Fronted by the core members of London troubadours, Five Fathoms Deep, the band re-formed in Oxford, joined by new faces and a powerhouse of harmonies. Their songs depict stories of love, loss & sea monsters.
